With the rise in streaming video entertainment, every filmmaker everywhere, independent filmmaker, student filmmaker, and major studios are releasing films to streaming platforms faster than ever. As such, the competition for viewership on these platforms has increased. With Amazon Prime’s open upload format, the competition to have your film viewed is even more fierce than a more select opportunity that a platform like Netflix, Hulu, or Apple TV might provide. So, how do you, a filmmaker, get your film seen when there are so many films in the sea? Two options. You can either become remarkably good at marketing and spend 8 months to a year promoting your own film and developing interest and spend an ample budget or you can hire a distribution company to work all that out for you, keeping in mind, there may be some contractual red flags you’ll want to be aware of and even hire a film industry lawyer to look anything over before you sign anything related to your hard work.
If you are actively looking for a distribution company for your film, Magnolia Pictures may be one worth considering. Here is a little bit of history and some of their current/recent projects.
